Conclusion
The choice before us a sprospective teachers is clear. The either make that cultural educatinal connection to our students through creating a culturally relevant pedagogy or we just become another well intentioned but ineffective teacher. In essence we ourselves become irrelevant as educators.
Culture is central to learning. It plays a role not only in communicating and receiving information, but also in shaping the thinking process of groups and individuals. A pedagogy that acknowledges, responds to, and celebrates fundamental cultures offers full, equitable access to education for students from all cultures. In this educational process we as prospective teachers see ourselves not in the dominant traditional classroom role but as facilitators to students who themselves take the lead and initiative in what they are learning. In the words of William Arthur Ward “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”Let us all as prospective teachers aim to inspire.
